Sunny Days!

Since my last Cystic Fibrosis clinic, which you may have read about on my Facebook page, I have been working on a couple goals... both medical and personal. And boy do I love this summer weather!

Summer weather combines one medical and one personal goal!! EXERCISE + MORE FAMILY TIME! I'm not one to enjoy extreme heat (90+), but have really LOVED the nice days outside with the family this summer! Sun (+sunblock LOL), freezie pops, flip flops, YES PLEASE! We have even spent some time at the lake this summer! Our kiddo(s) LOVE(S) the water and so does Andrew! I don't enjoy being IN the water as much as I like being ON the water. We have spent a dozen days this summer at our two favorite park/splashpads as well! Even days spent at home are usually in the kiddie pool. We are enjoying this weather and getting some exercise too!

WALK!

I try to talk advantage and do some walking when its nice out and I feel good. My Physical Therapist at clinic said it needs to be 15 mins of full activity - no resting. I have never been the best with exercise. But since clinic I'm putting an actual effort in on days where my arthritis is not bad. Mostly, we go for 1 mile walks around our neighborhood. I enjoy being outside and talking to Andrew as we walk, but honestly I'm not really enjoying the physical part ( being out of breath, my joints bugging me, etc). Plus, its feels like another thing to add in the day, almost like a medical treatment I have to do in order to keep on top of my Cystic Fibrosis. It hard to keep up and not be tired, before the walk is over my feet start showing the arthritis spots so we head home and then I'm stuck "resting" the rest of the day... I feel like its counterproductive. BUT, my hope is the more I do it the easier it becomes AND my body tolerates it better. For now, I'm pushing through and enjoying the parts of the exercise that I can.... FAMILY time and the SUN!

I'm thankful for these special moments, water activities, family bike rides, family walks, every single bit! I'm also glad I made the decision to take a step away from my career and focus more time at home for now. We never know what the future holds as foster parents and we are enjoying every minute we can! Seeing so many of my friends on transplants lists, waiting, recovering, and such. I'm thankful for my stable health, my family, my friends. I'm thankful for the warm summers where I can spend time with those I love and appreciate it all. For now, I plan to keep enjoying the weather and sun with my family as much as possible!

  1. Sounds like for most part thins are going well. Don't over do on walks. Pushing yourself a little is good. But not to much all at once. Although may seem counterproductive each time is actually getting more productive. So keep at it. Summer for me is okay as long as temperature is not above 85 and low humidity. Temperatures in 90s and high humidity have hard time handling. Ideally. Night time temp 58-68 and daytime 70-85 would be ideal. Hope everything continues to go well and even if you do have an occasional set back keep your head up and keep going or to quote one of my favorite expressions " just keep on keeping on"

  2. Doug, I will keep at it. Humidity bugs me if I'm outside, so I agree with the weather temps! Hope you are well!

Today's BIG Appointment

I discussed last week about my recent struggles & goals. I have been dealing with a lot all at once! Family planning (update on that in 2 weeks), my Grandma's funeral, lower lung function. Through it all I have remained very compliant with my meds! My health is VERY important to me. So this last weekend I took my vest machine, wabi sterilizer system , and packs of ensure to my parent's for the weekend. I wanted to make sure I did everything. While it was a sad occasion, it was still pleasant seeing almost all of the family together again. Actually 27 out of 29 of the cousins made it to the funeral. Grandpa is in the middle of the picture (can you find me?) LOL   On top of my medications I have been doing some dancing & walking, but no jogging or anything. I'm still counting calories on my fitbit (hitting over 3000) a day (& 40 grams of protein, 50 grams of fat at least). I knew I was feeling a bit better than before, but wasn't sure what to expec...

Beginning of the Year Troubles

Normal "beginning of the year" troubles for Andrew and I only really consist of one topic: Our Deductible [please no Obama, or government bashing] I've always had high deductibles ALL MY LIFE (no matter who was president). The problem is I hit my deductible within the first week of January. In the past I have always prepared for this and since I was still on my father's insurance (up until last year) he typically paid the bill (at least for medical stuff). And in the future Andrew & I won't have such an issue with this. We will be able to save and plan ahead for the $3,000 (for my deductible, his is another $3,000). However, this year was more difficult. We saved all 2013-2014 for our wedding & honeymoon, plus had our deductible saved too. But Real Estate was a pricey career to start, I've put almost $5,000 into it (classes, dues, licensing, exam, advertising, etc). So needless to say our deductible disappeared, thanks to my new career. Wh...

Sleepover and upcoming Clinic!

Sleepover & Clinic is soon! Every summer my cousin Kazia (now 13yrs old) comes to stay with my mom for a week or two. And usually I will have Kazia stay the night a couple times at my apt. Kazia stayed at my house the last two nights. The first night we just ate pizza, watched a movice, and fell asleep early. ( Picture of Hot n Cold Makeover-which while she was writting H and C on my face, It felt like H and O...I was glad to see it wasn't.lol) But last night we rented some movies, did makeovers, and ate junk food, all while I was hooked up to my stomach feeding. It reminded me of when I used to stay at Aunt Karla's (Kazia's Mom's) house in the summer. I grew up very close to Kazia's sister, Devahn. Devahn and I were always spending summer at each other's place. We are tight as cousins can be. We spent a lot of time hanging out with a couple older cousins too, mostly Patricia and Mary. Some of Patricia and I's outings are hilarious, but that's ...
