150th Blog Entry: Importance of Peer Support Online

Why did I start a blog? What is the point of this blog: catching up on little things. I started writing this blog in Feb of 2012. A year and a half a go! I have written 150 blog entries, I've had  14,906 visits to my site. ( breaking it down that = 784 people visiting my site per month. However, that monthly count increases each month. For the month of September I had 981 visits).  Why does this matter?  It means, I'm not completely boring and perhaps it means other CFers have found my blog and enjoy reading and relating to topics I discuss. I love getting comments from people, I have met many people through blogging and I love this idea of networking.  ( fun fact: this is latest views I've broken down by location) United States  11818  Russia  760 Canada  309 Germany  251 United Kingdom  194 Ukraine  151 Australia  137 South Korea  89 France  87 Spain  83 I especially feel it is important to network via computers and oth

Confusing the Professor

Confused Professor: My (Social Work Grad School) professor assigned us to write a reflective paper about our  biological  history. He said to be sure to include all medical, physical, etc. Discuss infancy-present. Any med problem, illnesses, developmental, cognitive problems, and how everything affected us (including academically). The whole thing is only worth 5 points. But he said to be detailed. He has no clue I have Cystic Fibrosis or other problems. I think the assignment is a little personal, especially if we have to share... So I decided to go out and write it all. I want to see his reaction as he hands me back this 8 page (5 point paper). (I included an eco-map, and references in class too). HERE IS MY MEDICAL/BIOLOGICAL BACKGROUND PAPER: feel free to read, skim, or skip :-) I was born 12 weeks premature, life-flighted to another hospital, and had a major surgery within hours of my birth. I was born with a severe intestinal blockage and many  other medical problems. I

Oh lungs...

High School reunion and Clinic Up date: I had a busy weekend. I worked Friday night, then we drove the 2 hours back to my hometown and Saturday was packed full. I (along with 2 other classmates) put together our 10 year reunion.  It all came together and turned out pretty nice. We had the parade at 1pm with the reunion that night at 5-10pm.  I had a great time and really hope all my classmates enjoyed it too. Then Sunday we returned home. Monday I had classes and CF CLINIC!!! Here's the update. We re-tested my liver function. I won't know results until later this week. Also, we discussed my issues with insurance and receiving meds. My weight was VERY good at 102 lbs. I haven't been triple digits for a year and really have been struggling. However, I realized last week that my high as calorie powder has been disappearing quicker. Andrew is tricky. He has been putting a ton apparently in the hot cocoa that he keeps offering to make me. So yay! However, the last two w

Cystic Fibrosis= a lot of recycling

CF and Recycling: I never realized how much I recycled until I moved to a town where I don't receive curb-side pick up. Instead we fill up our trunks and drive it 20 mins to a neighboring town's recycling center. Also, my pharmacy is in this town, just a few blocks away.  It's meant to be.... I've always recycled a lot and have been earth friendly. I have convinced quite a few others into being "recyclers" too. Most of my college roommates and friends learned early on it was easier to break down the  boxes, rinse out the cans, and recycle, rather than here my 20 minute "soapbox" talks every time I found a recyclable product in the trash. Just ask them...lol So I've heard people discuss the fact my recycling container in the kitchen is your average 13 gallon can, whereas my trash in the kitchen is small (like a bathroom or an "under the desk" size can) is beyond weird looking. They may look funny next to each other. But th
