Giving a Speech & Walking with Friends!

Champaign Walk's Outcome:

As you know I went to Champaign last night through this morning for the CF Fundraiser. First of all kudos to my friend Alex, for hosting a CF fundraiser the night before the walk. We had a great turnout, ate lots of pizza, and had a great time! The owner of the restaurant even donated $20 to our team! This was the first fundraiser that another person has held for me (or our team). An I know of two other non-CF fundraisers that are not walks (an put on by people other than me. Which is awrsome! Love the motivation everyone has this year! I thought last year was amazing, but it seems everyone is really stepping up their game this year!

And I love Champaign- Urbana (well, mainly Urbana)...
I lived there for 5 years (and attended U of I). It was a great lil city. It was so environmentally friendly. Lots of people ride the bus, ride buses or walk everywhere. Plus, I even got to show Andrew where I lived and took him to the gigantic famers market (Which fills a huge section of the mall parking lot). The farmers market and library were only blocks from my house. I'd walk there every Saturday and buy some produce, and check out some movies or books for the week. It's the simple things in life :-) I loved it. It was nice taking a step back in time and even catching up with some good friends.

I got to hang out with Alex and meet all his closest friends on Friday, then I had another friend (U of I time) come to the walk too. It was amazing catching up with Alex and John! I hadn't seen John since 2010! The walk was more of a success than I thought. Most people I know are donating to the Princeton Walk, so I figured we'd raise like $10-$20 a person for this walk and only have a walk team
of 2 other people (and Andrew and I). But we had 3 people come (and then us two) and we raised $252 for the walk.

I was one of the two guest speakers for the event. They had a mother discuss the new treatments and clinical trials. Then I discussed a overveiw of my life, etc. It's in the video I posted on youtube below:

It was so nice to go back to Urbana, take a walk down memory lane and I'm very happy with our turnout Here to the Naperville Walk (May 17th)! Also, make sure to scroll down and read about the awesome in the mail fundraiser idea I got from a couple friends (Or click here)
And I'm very happy with the amount we fundraised! We have another Walk in 2 weeks in Naperville, feel free to join us or donate:

So much is happening this week, Andrew's Birthday, Mom visiting, my last clinical trial appointment, and a BIG Clinic (where we discuss getting my stomach tube out!!!! FINALLY after 15 years)

So stay tuned for the updates :-)

Updates Galore!

Big News, Big Times, Big Change: I had my post hospital Doctor's appointment on April 21st and it went well. I posted a video on my CF facebook page. My weight is back on track, heading up. Also, my lung function was around 55%, so that's almost my baseline. I got to take my needle out that night. OH BOY!! I loved being needle free! Whoohoo no more IVs!!!!! In the last week I have been super busy with a few different things. 1. Work. I have a new client AND I had all my post licensing webinars & exams this last week! 2. More CF Foundation Volunteer work. I held a presentation in my home town, where I discussed CF, the different mutations & severity of classes, as well as fundraising for great strides. I talked about the history of the CF foundation, care centers, and more about our local IL CF fundraisers. Overall, it wasn't a big turn out, so I was a little bummed. My hometown has always supported my CF cause, so it was disappointing not to have a good numb...

LOTS, LOTS, LOTS to Tell!

Doing What I Can: People can tell me " Wow, how do you keep up with all that" (referring to all my meds). Sometimes people tell me "That's so awesome that you are doing all that".... Well, I guess, but not really. I just do what the doctors tell me, I know its the best chance I have to living a longer fuller and better quality of life. Plus I have lot of help from Andrew, family, and friends! Right now the main thing I'm working on is: 1. Keeping my lungs at 56% (since my last appointment ) AND 2. following the dietary restrictions the GI specialist gave me (read about that appt here ) & I'm keeping my Food Journal for him to look at. Here's how that is going: Okay...  For the last 7 days I've had no meat in my diet. I really miss my meat and to be honest it didn't help a lot. This week starting today I'm no dairy for 7 days. Then I'm no meat and dairy... Then no gluten for a week. I go back to the specialist in 5 weeks. I...

Leaving on an Airplane, don't know when I'll be..oh, wait I return on Sunday!

VACATION YAY! Tomorrow I head to my uncles' and stay there, then Thursday morning, EARLY in the morning, we are headed to the airport! We are flying into Buffalo, NY and spending Thursday at Niagara Falls! Friday and Saturday I have no clue what we are doing! I know there is a surprise for me. But I'm not sure what it is. All I know is I'm soo excited to go! Last Fall I went to Las Vegas with my friend Amanda! It was soo much fun and had been like decade..seriously 10+ years...since I had been on vacation (well more than wknd trips to see friends who live within a 10 hr drive, hee hee Kym!) When I get back from my trip this weekend, I will post about it too! I just have to pack a little more when I go places and make sure to do my meds. On top of the regular, clothes, etc that most people pack  I will also pack: therapy machine 5 nebulizer cups  28 vials of medicine for my nebulizers over 150 pills I will take during the wknd 16 cans of stomach...
